Newborn Workshop

This post is way overdue – things have been so crazy and there just never seems like there’s enough time to catch up on my blogging!!  A while ago, I attended a fabulous newborn workshop with Kelly Ryden and Tracy Raver in Omaha, Nebraska.  As so many of you know, I just adore my newborns and I am always trying to expand my repertoire of tips, tricks and approaches to better bring out the unique beauty and character of each little one.  This particular workshop was limited to just five people and focused entirely on newborns. It was simply an absolute joy to work in such an intimate setting with other professionals who share my passion.

Below are a few images I took during the workshop, as we went through the intricacies of different camera techniques and lighting strategies.  I just love the way that Kelly and Tracy set up and pose these shots, not to mention their fantastic assortment of blankets, baskets, hats and headbands.

The model for our workshop was Ellie and she was just 7 days new, and already a natural in front of all of our cameras.

Funny story … or maybe just a comment on how I’m geographically challenged …  I arrived in Nebraska and picked up my rental car. I hooked up my GPS, and of course it was not working in the parking structure, so I pull up maps on my phone and put in the address of the hotel. The car does not have a compass – so I have to *guess* which direction I’m heading because the map on my phone cannot pinpoint my location precisely.  So I guess and when I finally get my bearings (which really means that my GPS starts working because I have no idea!), I realize that I’m in Iowa! Lovely!! Luckily it was only about a 1/2 hour out of the way.  Not too bad all things considered!!  Lesson learned – when you are geographically challenged do not completely rely on technology to get you where you need to go.  Mapquest still needs to be my friend!

Love the Baby Rolls! | Phoenix Baby Photographer

I love chunky babies!! Miss Natalia is definitely a chunky little monkey. At just 5 months old, she was not steady sitting up on her own, but with mom spotting just off to the side she was able to balance herself for a few moments.

I love all of Natalia’s different smiles and her dark brown eyes …  she reminds me so much of her oldest sister. I can’t wait to see her at 1 year, 2 years, 3 years!!

Momma’s special request was a shot of these precious thigh rolls!

Pretty Princess | Chandler Child Photographer

This 4-year-old beauty was so excited for our session. Her big sister had a session all on her own a few months ago, and since then Miss Lilli was waiting for her turn! Well, she turned 4 so it was finally her time. We had such a fun morning!! Lilli’s a gorgeous little girl … a tiny bit shy with a beautiful joyful spirit and the biggest smile that lights up her whole face.

I love pink!!! Her momma made this dress for her Minnie Mouse birthday party! It’s so cute!!

Brothers Stick Together | Phoenix Twins Photographer

I love working with these twin brothers! I honestly cannot believe that they are already one year old!!

Each session they start out so serious and just need a little chance to warm up to me (and my camera) and realize that I’m actually super fun to hang out with!

Because this session was the celebration of their first birthday, I also had brought along a bunch of balloons.   Near the end of the session, I grabbed the balloons and they were a huge hit!!  The boys loved them, and it made for some big smiles and laughs!!
